Our 2022 Charities

Against Malaria Foundation works to prevent the spread of malaria by distributing long-lasting, insecticide-treated mosquito nets to susceptible populations in developing countries. AMF has been active in 36 countries in Africa, Asia and South America, with a particular focus on sub-Saharan Africa.

Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE) finds and promotes the most effective ways to help animals. We conduct charity evaluations, make recommendations, award grants, and drive capital in the animal advocacy movement. Our philosophical commitments—anti-speciesism, promoting welfare, and following empirical evidence and logical reasoning—are the foundation of our work. Our vision is a world in which no individual is given less than full moral consideration on the basis of any morally irrelevant feature of their identity, including species membership. ACE helps people help the most animals.

At CATF, we build momentum for climate solutions based on scientific evidence, intellectual integrity, and pragmatism. We know that the climate crisis is too complex a challenge, and the stakes are too high for us to limit the tools at our disposal. We challenge conventional wisdoms and explore every opportunity that offers promise, and we’ve done so for more than 25 years.

Mission: Push the technology and policy changes needed to achieve a zero-emissions, high-energy planet at an affordable cost. Vision: Meet the world’s rising energy demand in a way that is financially, socially, and environmentally sustainable. Goal: Achieve zero-emissions energy, waste, agricultural, and forest management systems by 2050.

Evidence Action bridges the gap between rigorous, field-tested research and at-scale, real-world solutions that measurably improve hundreds of millions of lives with three main initiatives: The Dispensers for Safe Water program installs and maintains chlorine dispensers in rural Africa. The Deworm the World Initiative partners with governments in India, Nigeria, and Pakistan school-based deworming programs. Evidence Action’s Accelerator drives the identification, design, and testing of additional interventions that can be scaled to reach millions more.

Founders Pledge is a global nonprofit empowering entrepreneurs to do the most good possible with their charitable giving. We equip members with everything needed to maximize their impact, from evidence-led research and advice on the world’s most pressing problems, to comprehensive infrastructure for global grant-making, alongside opportunities to learn and connect. To date, they have pledged over $8 billion to charity and donated $800 million. We’re grateful to be funded by our members and other generous donors.

IRAP is a global legal aid and advocacy organization working to create a world where refugees and all people seeking safety are empowered to claim their right to freedom of movement and a path to lasting refuge. IRAP mobilizes free direct legal assistance, policy advocacy, and impact litigation to help ensure that displaced people everywhere can know their legal rights, access migration pathways, and catalyze systemic solutions for themselves and all who follow. Our global legal center is powered by displaced people, our staff, pro bono partners, law students, and partner organizations worldwide.

New Incentives is dedicated to implementing evidence-based programming to save lives in a manner that does the most good per dollar. We provide small cash incentives to caregivers in order to increase childhood vaccination rates in northern Nigeria, a region with some of the highest child mortality rates and lowest childhood vaccination rates in the world. As of October 2022, we have enrolled over 835,000 infants and encouraged more than 6.8 million childhood vaccinations. New Incentives is scaling up to reach approximately 3.2 million infants by the end of 2024.

Globally, 280 million people are living with depressive disorders. In low-income countries, approximately 85% receive no treatment. StrongMinds provides free group talk therapy to low-income women and adolescents with depression in Uganda and Zambia. We scale our reach through peer-to-peer therapy, teletherapy, public education, and partnerships. Individuals who complete our therapy achieve clinically significant reductions in depression symptoms, restoring hope for themselves and their families.

To meet growing global demand, meat production is estimated to nearly double by 2050. If the world is to achieve its climate, global health, food security, and biodiversity goals, making meat differently via alternative proteins (plant-based and cultivated meat) will be as essential as the global transition to renewable energy. When compared to conventional meat, alternative proteins dramatically reduce emissions, require far less land, eliminate the need for antibiotics in our food system, and feed more people with fewer resources. Given that taste and price determine what most people eat, GFI works around the world to make alternative proteins as delicious, affordable, and accessible as conventional meat. By changing how meat is made, we can seize the opportunity to produce food that people love and usher in a more sustainable, secure, and just food future. As an international network of organizations powered by philanthropy, GFI is uniquely positioned to accelerate alternative proteins by catalyzing and growing the entire field, creating a world where alternative proteins are no longer alternative.

The Life You Can Save makes “smart giving simple” by curating a group of nonprofits that save or improve the most lives per dollar. They aim to create a world where everyone has an opportunity to build a better life and where there’s no suffering or death due to extreme poverty. By donating to The Life You Can Save itself, you can help us introduce more people to effective giving and raise more money for impactful charities. Over the last three years, each dollar invested in our work has generated an average of $18 in donations for our recommended charities.

The Life You Can Save’s Emergency Relief Appeal is focused on crisis support for those living in extreme poverty. Money given to this appeal will be divided equally amongst its effective charities. Interventions currently covered by this fund: East Africa hunger crisis, Humanitarian crisis in Yemen, Hunger crisis in West Africa and more.
